How to Read Your Prescription

OD (Right Eye)
OD stands for "oculus dexter" which is Latin for "right eye".

OS (Left Eye)
OS stands for "oculus sinister" which is Latin for “left eye”.

Sphere (SPH) - also known as Power (PWR)
They mean the same thing: the strength of your prescription. If you're nearsighted you will have a minus (-) before your values, and if you are farsighted you will have a plus (+).

Cylinder (CYL)
This is for people with astigmatism. This is when one part of the eye needs more correction than the rest. The Cylinder value is written with a minus (-) sign.

Axis
This is only for people with astigmatism. The axis is a number between 0 and 180 and determines the orientation of the Cylinder (CYL).

Lens Thickness
ESS prescription lenses are made out of polycarbonate. As a rule of thumb with polycarbonate lenses, the higher the strength, the thicker the lens. Prescriptions greater than +5/-5 may have a slightly thicker lens than your typical eyeglasses.

Pupillary Distance (PD)
Your Pupillary Distance, or PD, is the distance in millimeters (mm) from the center of one pupil to the center of the other. Can’t find your PD? No problem. You can leave the default setting of 63 which is the average measurement for adults.

Can I submit to my vision insurance?
You can submit a claim to your vision insurance carrier by sending your Order Invoice that will be emailed to you once your prescription order ships.

The ESS Flight Pro™ is a low-profile goggle approved for use on U.S. Navy flight decks.  Based on the ESS Profile NVG™ goggle, it has all the advantages of a low-profile, night-vision-compatible frame.  

Ideal for cranial helmets, the Flight Pro™ features ESS’ patented Speed-Clip™ system, first introduced to the U.S. military on the ESS Flight Deck™ goggle in 2001.  This system provides quick adjustment of the high-memory elastic strap, even when wearing gloves.  

Advanced ClearZone™ FlowCoat lenses provide an optimal combination of anti-scratch coatings on the outside of the lens and anti-fog coatings on the inside.  A full-perimeter, Low-Flow™ ventilation and filtration system ventilates humid air while filtering airborne particles, air blasts and splashes.  The anti-microbial OpFoam™ face padding is designed to be comfortable, tear-resistant and easy-to-clean.

The Flight Pro™ is compatible with the ESS U-Rx™ and P-2B™ Rx Inserts.  

The Flight Pro™ features a Gray frame and strap, and Black Speed-Clip™ outriggers.
