Laser protective lenses block a specific wavelength or set of wavelengths of light that can be either visible or invisible to the naked eye. The amount or strength that LPL’s block those wavelengths is called the Optical Density (OD). ESS LPL’s are designed to allow the most amount of visible light transmittance (high VLT) to pass through the lenses for operational versatility in all environments while maintaining the greatest OD available to provide laser protection. The higher the (OD) the more laser light is blocked, the tradeoff is a darker lens. ESS has maximized the amount of protection and VLT.
The best option for laser protection will vary depending upon the users’ specific needs. The more wavelengths of protection added, the darker the lens. No one lens can protect against all wavelengths of laser threats. The user’s goal should be to select laser protection to cover only the wavelengths in threat. Whether it be visible green, blue or violet lasers or non-visible IR lasers, we have four different laser protection options suited for your needs and protection.
Newest to our laser collection, the ESS LPL-5+ protects against visible green and blue violet lasers. ESS LPL-5+ lenses protect against visible green lasers at a 532nm wavelength (2.5 OD) and visible blue violet lasers at 405-445nm wavelengths (1.5+ OD). At a VLT of 42% photopic (daytime) and 18% scotopic (nighttime), the LPL-5+ allows enough light transmittance to be used in darker nighttime conditions. Available in full eyeshields and goggles as well as replacement lenses to configure your current ESS frames.
The LPL-3B Lens technology is designed to block visible green, blue violet and non-visible InfraRed lasers from damaging the wearer’s eyes. ESS LPL-3B lenses protect against visible violet lasers at 405nm wavelength (5.0 OD), visible blue lasers at 445nm wavelength (3.0 OD), visible green lasers at 532nm wavelength (4.5 OD), non-visible IR lasers at 800-1090nm wavelengths (OD 4.0+), and non-visible IR lasers at 1064nm wavelengths (OD 6.0+). At a VLT of 22% photopic (daytime) and 8.4% Scotopic (nighttime) this allows for optimum protection and operation versatility in both bright and low light conditions.
In response to the increase in civil disturbances and domestic threats, ESS is offering laser lenses that protect against the most common of these laser threats. The LPL-5 Lens technology is designed to block visible green lasers and laser pointers from damaging the wearer’s eyes. ESS LPL-5 lenses provide ballistic protection along with 2.5 Optical Density (OD) that blocks 99.7% of 532nm wavelengths from green lasers. At a VLT of 48% photopic (daytime) and 23% scotopic (nighttime) this allows for optimum protection and operation versatility in both bright and low light conditions.
The LPL-B Lens technology is designed to block non-visible InfraRed lasers from damaging the wearer’s eyes. ESS LPL-B lenses protect against non-visible IR lasers at 820-1090nm (4.0 OD) and 1064nm (5.0 OD), visible violet lasers at 405nm wavelength (5.0 OD), and visible blue lasers at 445nm wavelength (4.0 OD). At a VLT of 57% photopic (daytime) and 42% scotopic (nighttime) this allows for optimum protection and operation versatility in both bright and low light conditions.
